The Silent Uprising – April 25, 1999
Quiet footsteps in the morning light
No slogans raised, no signs in sight
Ten thousand standing, calm and clear
No one knew what would follow here
Springtime in a city made of stone
Along the avenue they stood alone
No voices rising, only eyes
Every step beneath the silent skies
No flags waving, no display
No angry words to lead the way
Only breathing, side by side
And the hope that they might hear inside
But what stood peaceful in that place
Was given soon another face
What was a plea became a blame
And patience slowly turned to flame
The silent uprising, no one cries
Still it travels through the years and time
Truth is waiting where the shadows stay
Compassion carries on its way
The silent uprising, quiet strength
No system can erase its trace
Take away, destroy, condemn
What has been seen remains within
From the silence came a ban
Something power could not understand
Too much spirit breathing free
Too much light for what they wished to see
Names were spoken, doors were closed
Every question reimposed
What would not fit was redefined
Until the truth was left behind
And the world began to turn away
Words grew weaker day by day
Between the markets, power and gold
Silence became another story told
The silent uprising, no one cries
Still it travels through the years and time
Truth is waiting where the shadows stay
Compassion carries on its way
The silent uprising, quiet strength
No system can erase its trace
Take away, destroy, condemn
What has been seen remains within
And somewhere in a foreign land
Someone still refuses to bend
Without a stage, without a light
Only conviction in their eyes
They say nothing, yet say it all
No applause and no great call
Only someone choosing to remain
Knowing why they bear the weight
No echo, only memory
No judgment, only history
No ending, only moving on
And somewhere it is never gone
The silent uprising, year by year
Invisible, yet always near
What is buried carries on
Beyond the place, beyond the dawn
The silent uprising, quiet vow
Against the marks of power now
And whoever dares to see
Knows that silence never leaves
Quiet footsteps, steady hands
One long street, an entire land
And one question still remains:
Who will choose to look today?
