Cold Tracks Rolling

Cold Tracks Rolling

I hear the cold tracks rolling,
just past the break of dawn.
Been counting all my footsteps,
on this lonesome road I’m on.
Mistakes keep catching up to me,
like shadows on the run.
And every mile reminds me
what guilt and sorrow done.

But I keep on moving,
can’t stay in one place long.
Trouble’s right behind me,
like the echo of a song.
If freedom has a heartbeat,
it beats beneath my boots.
I’m walking with the rhythm
of forgotten, weary truths.

I left my home at midnight,
no letter on the floor.
The wind was cold and honest,
it whispered: “Not no more.”
I’m searching for redemption
in towns I’ve never seen.
A stranger in the headlights
of a life that might’ve been.

If the good Lord’s got forgiveness,
I hope He saves some left for me.
I’ve been drifting like a freight train
on a track that won’t stay free.

But I keep on moving,
can’t stay in one place long.
Trouble’s right behind me,
like the echo of a song.
If freedom has a heartbeat,
it beats beneath my boots.
I’m walking with the rhythm
of forgotten, weary truths.

So here’s to all the miles,
to the man I’m meant to be.
I’ll keep the cold tracks rolling
‘til they finally carry me.
